You’ve got to love how flexible the horror genre is. Whether you’re looking for a huge spectacle or an isolated tale of woe, audiences can be scare properly when you’ve got the right formula. A24’s current moves in Hollywood are proof that they’ve always understood that truth; especially when the latter half is exemplified in its upcoming aural terror tale Undertone.

With a movie that isolated in scope, cutting a trailer without spoilers kind of feels hard to do. But even with tons of details putting together a more defined picture of what to expect, I kind of think that this approach is playing into the hands of writer/director Ian Tuason’s 2025 festival darling.

The New Undertone Trailer Amps Up The Terror – And The Plot Points

Undertone’s previous trailer was a more cryptic look into the sinister messages podcast host Eva (Nina Kiri) digs into, in the dark of her own home. Thanks to A24 we have another look at the film that feels even more intense; but may include a little more detail than most horror fans would want.

So if you want to go into this March movie cold, you may want to sit this one out – or try to forget what you’ve heard. Personally, after having watched this Undertone reel myself, I’m still ready to lock into what looks like a night from hell for poor Evy. And it’s because of those would-be plot points that actually have me more intrigued. That means it’s time to discuss this audible thread of horror; so if you want to avoid any sort of speculation, you’ve been warned.

Why Undertone’s Potential Trailer Spoilers Don’t Bother Me

Looking at the pieces to the puzzle already revealed, it appears that Undertone’s new trailer dumps a lot of information from the picture’s story. One line at the end of Undertone’s new tease truly unnerved me, while also making me feel like we may have heard too much.

What were you thinking? You shouldn’t have listened to all of them. It’s what she wants.

That is a line of dialogue that’s so simply chilling, but feels like it’s told us the cornerstone of the story. But maybe that’s what Undertone’s marketing department wants us to think. To watch this trailer is, in a way, the audience’s opportunity to fall into the same trap Evy is wandering into with her own ears.

The trailer even flashes the message “Don’t Listen” periodically through the back half of its contents. Mixed in with constant warnings from Undertone’s co-host Justin (Adam DiMarco), we already know that our self proclaimed skeptic is going to see this through to the end of the line.

Which then leaves us two big questions left to answer: who is “She,” and why does this entity want Evy to listen to all of those tapes? Undertone’s messages will haunt your ears, at a theater near you, starting Friday, March 13th. Kind of fitting, isn’t it?
