It was truly special to see Universal and Illumination’s work on The Super Mario Bros Movie worked its magic on Nintendo fans old and new. A new theatrical origin story for our beloved Italian plumbers, the 2023 blockbuster dominated the year; which made greenlighting a Mario sequel pretty easy. Though we’ve seen a previous trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, tonight’s Super Bowl LX festivities brought some new footage that is truly 65 million years in the making.
As released by Universal and Illumination, the hotly anticipated sequel has given us more of what we’ve wanted: Yoshi! Though, as you can see below, the previously confirmed Super Mario Galaxy co-star runs into a larger, and rather fierce cousin that feels more at home in the Jurassic World:
That T-Rex is…very angry, and further proof that Super Mario Odyssey will be part of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s Mario mashup. That’s also confirmed with the appearance of Baby Mario and Luigi in this new Super Bowl spot; which actually packs a lot of detail into such a brief slot. (And happened to land during the same sporting event that Super Mario/Jurassic World star Chris Pratt just happened to show up to.)
Honestly, the only way that this new peek could have amped up the excitement is if it included the first lines from Brie Larson’s Princess Rosalina. Then again, that’s exactly the sort of think a studio would have to save for a second full trailer. One that could probably land in front of another kid-friendly movie, like maybe Disney/Pixar’s Hoppers!
While we don’t know when the next extended look at this picture will come, you can be sure that there will be another big sneak peek before The Super Mario Galaxy Movie streaks into theaters on April 1. Surely, we’ll all be keeping our eyes on the skies, looking for the next glimpse at this Super Mario adventure, but don’t forget to keep a browser tab tuned to THS’ Movie News archives! With all of the awesome trailers dropping during Super Bowl LX, you never know who, or what, you’ll see next!
