Believe it or not, Universal’s 1999 remake of The Mummy still carries a healthy legacy. With its blend of comedy, horror, and romance sweeping the world off its feet, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz anchoring it all beautifully. Now, almost 30 years after the Book of the Dead first released Imhotep, the previously announced legacy-quel The Mummy 4 now officially has a date penciled in for its theatrical debut!
Don’t get too excited, folks. Per reporting from Deadline, Rick and Evie will be returning to theaters on May 19, 2028. As for the creative team putting it all together, Abigail directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (aka Radio Silence) will be at the helm, with Orphan: First Kill writer David Coggeshall crafting a tail that’s sealed somewhere in the Universal backlot.
While we have no clue where things are going just yet, The Mummy 4 still looks like an awesome throwback. Radio Silence are experts at mixing comedy and horror, while not pulling any punches with either. So they’re perfectly fit a romp with the O’Connell family & friends! Also, with Brendan Fraser’s renaissance in full effect, and acting as the first Rachel Weisz entry since 2001’s The Mummy Returns, anticipation couldn’t be higher.

Honestly, the only way The Mummy 4 could be even more exciting is if Mr. Coggeshall is resurrecting the previously unused draft. Per THR, that picture was trying to get Antonio Banderas into the mix as an Aztec mummy. Yeah, good luck getting that enticing dream trailer out of your head!
The Mummy 4 will now head to theaters on May 19, 2028! Should you want to revisit the first two adventures with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, you can currently stream them both through access to a Hulu subscription. Just…don’t read any odd hieroglyphics, ok?
