Robert Duvall, the Oscar-winning actor and multiple-time nominee for films like The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and The Great Santini, has died at the age of 95. Duvall’s death was announced on Facebook from his wife, Luciana Duvall.
“Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time,” she wrote. “Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort. To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything.
His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court. For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all. Thank you for the years of support you showed Bob and for giving us this time and privacy to celebrate the memories he leaves behind.”
He shone in roles opposite Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, and Gene Hackman, among many others, throughout his long and illustrious career. His first role was a gigantic one, starring in To Kill A Mockingbird as Boo Radley alongside Gregory Peck.

His star-making turn though, was in 1972’s The Godfather, where he played Tom Hagen, the consigliere, which brought him his first Oscar Nomination.
Other films followed like Network, American Buffalo, We’re Not Jet Set, Angelo, My Love, and The Great Santini. That role earned him his first Oscar win as Best Actor in 1980.
His career didn’t stop there with roles in The Natural, Colors, Days of Thunder, Rambling Rose, Deep Impact, and plenty of others. He earned several more Oscar nominations for films like The Apostle and A Civic Action.
The latter stages of his career brought out his seventh Oscar nomination for his work on The Judge with Robert Downey Jr..
He was born in San Diego, CA and grew up in various parts of the country and studied drama on the insistence of his parents.
He is survived by his wife Luciana Pedraza.
RIP.
