The Tusla King spinoff set to star Samuel L. Jackson is going through some changes. Not the least of which is that the series is no longer NOLA King. Following a creative overhaul of the series, the show is moving to Texas and will have the title Frisco King. Another surprise is that Taylor Sheridan will be writing all eight-episodes of the first season. It is promising to see Sheridan still involved in his creations at Paramount, given his planned exit to NBCUniversal in a few years. There is currently no release date for Frisco King, but production is expected to begin in March in Fort Worth, Texas.
About Frisco King
Originally titled NOLA King, the spinoff was originally set to be in New Orleans, with a story focused on Samuel L. Jackson’s character, Russell Lee Washington Jr. Who was introduced in Season 3 of Tulsa King as a hitman who has a history with Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) after their time in jail together.
The pilot script was originally written by Dave Erickson, who was set to serve as showrunner on the spinoff. However, he departed the show back in July, and no new showrunner has been announced. The exit of Erickson opened the door for Sheridan to step in and write the entire first season. With Sheridan stepping, the shift to Frisco is not a shock. The super creator and his long-time collaborator, David C. Glasser, opened a production campus last year in Fort Worth.

The team at Paramount is understandably happy to have Sheridan writing the first season of the show. Fans of his work will also be happy about this news, as there was a lot of uncertainty about his involvement in projects at Paramount+ with the impending departure from NBCUniversal in January 2029.
Matt Thunell, President, Paramount Television Studios. We are honored to have Taylor Sheridan write the first season of Frisco King and bring to life Samuel L. Jackson’s iconic character. Having him pen all episodes of the season with his singular voice will be a treat for fans of Tulsa King and audiences around the world.
Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals at Paramount+. Taylor Sheridan continues to build worlds that attract some of the most iconic talent working today, and Frisco King is no exception. Having Samuel L. Jackson step into this universe is a testament to the scale and ambition of the storytelling Taylor is crafting. We’re thrilled to expand this storyline with such a powerhouse creative team and cast on Paramount+.
