MUBI has shared the teaser trailer for director Jane Schoenbrun’s hotly anticipated new film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. Fans will remember Schoenbrun from 2024’s I Saw the TV Glow, which received multiple nominations at the 2025 Independent Spirit Awards including Best Director, Best Lead Performance, and Best Feature.

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp is led by Emmy-winning actress Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) and Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, Sex Education, Scoop), and also stars Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan Baker, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kevin McDonald, Quintessa Swindell, and Jack Haven. It is written and directed by Schoenbrun and produced by Plan B.

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma marks Schoenbrun’s third feature, continuing a body of work shaped by themes of trans identity and queer horror. To Schoenbrun, having the freedom and ability as a director is part of the draw.

“I make movies I wish existed when I was a kid,” Schoenbrun said in a statement from 2025. “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is my best attempt at the ‘sleepover classic’: an insane yet cozy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store.”

About Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma

After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.

Einbinder appears to be that young director, with Anderson as the original star. The teaser is full of gripping surrealism with a grainy 16mm edge to it. Though it reveals little, it sets up what is Schoenbrun’s take on the classic 80s slasher.

“There is a hole at the bottom of the lake where the movies come from,” Anderson says, adding ominously, “He always comes back.”

The film opens in US theaters August 7, 2026.
