After the massive success of Scream 7 at the box office to the tune of $200+ million, it was a foregone conclusion that an eighth movie in the series would arrive. Now, that news comes from Deadline and they’re reporting that the Zuckerman sisters, Lilla and Nora, are writing the upcoming slasher sequel. They most recently served as the showrunners for the Peacock series Poker Face and have also done writing work on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Suits, Fringe, and Prodigal Son.

Kevin Williamson stepped back into the writer’s room for Scream 7 alongside Guy Busick, and he also directed that film. He has since come out and said that him directing was a one-time thing and that he wouldn’t do it again. Scream 7 hit the $200 million mark at the box office for the first time in franchise history after a rocky bit of news involving the sequel. Scream (2022) and Scream VI star Melissa Barerra was fired by Spyglass Media for posts made about the Israel-Palestine conflict and it led to a fan backlash on the internet. Multiple directors and writers were brought in for that installment, but it ended up being helmed by series creator Kevin Williamson.

That film also starred Isabel May, Courteney Cox, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, and Matthew Lillard. It remains to be seen who returns for this eighth entry in the series.

Here’s what we had to say about Scream 7 in our 87% review.

At the end of it, this is the seventh film in a slasher series that has reinvented itself multiple times. Scream 7 isn’t one of those movies that reinvent the series, but one that takes from the best of the series to make a film that is a lot of fun to watch. The kills are gruesome, the performances (particularly Isabel May) are solid, and if you’re a fan of Scream, this should send you home happy.

Scream 7 is a triumphant return in more than one way for this long-running slasher series.
