Zootopia 2 absolutely crushed the box office as the movie crossed $1 billion this week. Walt Disney Animation is riding high off of the success of their latest feature. Back when this project was announced CEO Bob Iger and Disney leadership set the bar pretty high. Zootopia 2 took a gazelle-like leap over that marker. Now, the studio’s 2025 output looks rosier!

That Hashtag Show enjoyed Zootopia 2 quite a bit! Our Mike Reyes adored this animated effort. In his review, our critic praised the comedy at the heart of this project. If the movie wasn’t funny, nothing else works. It all ends up flowing from there.

“Comedy is a genre that doesn’t always lend itself to franchise filmmaking. While procedurals are conversely too easy to churn out. Hiding in-between those extremes is a sweet spot that isn’t always easy to hit,” Reyes explained. “But Zootopia 2 nails it with its metaphorical tranquilizer dart. No one is left out with the continuing charms of Nick and Judy’s quest for justice, which is fantastic news for people who may have missed the tubes the first time around.”
