Disney released a surprise trailer for the live-action version of Moana. July 10 will see a modern favorite back on the magical waters with all of her friends. Dwayne the Rock Johnson is back to play Maui in the new movie. Catherine Laga’aia steps into the navigator’s position as Moana. The ocean’s call to adventure is not going to be something to miss on the big screen. 

 After the massive success Lilo and Stitch last year, Moana is here to occupy the same sort of event point on the calendar. The franchise is coming off another massive victory in Moana 2 which furthered the story of all the players here in animation. Now, the series is one of the biggest Disney properties period. Disney’s live-action reimagining of the beloved Oscar®-nominated animated adventure is directed by Emmy® and Tony Award® winner Thomas Kail (“Hamilton”). Dwayne Johnson produces the film with Dany Garcia, Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia and Lin-Manuel Miranda. And, executive produced by Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth and Auliʻi Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the animated films.

The new version features original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foaʻi and Mark Mancina. Mancina handles composing the original score. 

Audiences can chart a course with Moana exclusively in theaters July 10, 2026.
