Netflix’s animated adaptation of Devil May Cry is a remarkable success story. Not least of which because the story bears virtually no resemblance to the story told by the Capcom game franchise. Instead, showrunner Adi Shankar chooses to tell his own story separate from that of the games, with Studio Mir (The Legend of Korra, TRIGUN STARGAZE) bringing that story to life. Yet despite how non-canon that story is, critics praise it to the heavens…or more appropriately, to hell. Those critics on Rotten Tomatoes give it 96%, but with audiences being a bit more divided at 66%. Despite the mixed reception from audiences though, the series overall has gotten a lot of positive attention. It’s why Netflix greenlit a second season for it, and why we’re getting this news for today.
Netflix is proud to tease the upcoming second season of their Devil May Cry animated series with a pair of new still images. This announcement also comes with the confirmation that we will see this second streaming begin streaming on May 12, 2026 exclusively on Netflix. Now as for those stills, you can take a look at them below:

Not only that, but Adi Shankar himself is weighing in on his upcoming Devil May Cry Season 2 with his opinions on the matter. You can check out his words and the questions that prompted them below:
Series Creator Adi Shankar on Season 2:
“I’m allergic to formula. I dislike when successful shows turn into comfort food. Devil May Cry won’t be TV that loops. My mission for Season 2 was to capture the feeling of a 2000s film franchise entry where the audience can’t predict the next turn.”
Series Creator Adi Shankar on what he is most excited to tackle in bringing the beloved character Vergil to life:
“His restraint. The interesting part is that Vergil’s a guy who can stand completely still and still feel like the most dangerous one in the room. His presence does the talking.”
Devil May Cry Teased in Time for Upcoming Season 2
From the looks of things, Netflix is going all in on the hype for Devil May Cry Season 2. They definitely expect great things from it, as was the case for the first season…mostly. Alas, fans of the Capcom games will likely continue not liking it simply due to the canon derailment. We’ll just have to see on May 12 if Adi Shankar can win over people who aren’t fans of the games.
