As we spend a ton of time with our love ones this weekend, there’s plenty to watch! That Hashtag Show’s What We’re Watching is absolutely packed for Black Friday and beyond. Stranger Things 5 begins its race to the finish on Netflix. Zootopia 2 brings back some of our favorite characters on the big screen!  And, of course, we’ve got another helping where that came from! Let’s load up the cart with some of the newest releases this weekend.

What We’re Watching: Stranger Things 5 – Now streaming on Netflix

The Duffer Brothers take our beloved cast of kids into their final adventure. Yes, Hawkins is a little bit different than you’ve seen it in previous seasons of the Netflix favorite. But, it still feels good to be back in the world of Stranger Things. Chapter One dropped the day before Thanksgiving with four episodes. So, fans who have been waiting all this time get to see where the journey to the end really begins. This one is going to pull a massive number because of that large fan base.

Zootopia 2 – In theaters this weekend

Shakira provides the big title track for Zootopia 2. In that song, she asked the crowd to “get on up, let’s get this party started.”  For a lot of families out there, that’s exactly what’s going to happen. Zootopia 2 has proved to be a massive crowd pleaser over on Rotten Tomatoes. A lot of other sites have made a point of mentioning that this is the highest-rated Disney animated feature in a little while. It’s not hard to see why the animation is gorgeous. The voice acting is top shelf, and maybe most importantly, it’s just a lot of fun.

Eternity – In theaters this weekend.

Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller and Callum Turner all crackle in this delightful comedy drama about the afterlife. Olsen’s Joan has quite the conundrum on her hands as she can spend the rest of her existence with only one of these two men. Eternity is charming, and a lot of that is down to our three lead actors. But, this movie feels like one of those trademark A24 pictures in how a novel concept becomes something to think about for an entire week.

Hamnet – In theaters this weekend

What We're Watching

Jessie Buckley stars as Agnes and Paul Mescal as William Shakespeare in director Chloé Zhao’s HAMNET, a Focus Features release.

Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley star in this year-end list contender for the Lettrboxd set. William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes are elated to celebrate the arrival of their baby, Hamnet. But, when tragedy strikes (after all, it’s Shakespeare right?) can something be gleaned by the cruel chance of this world? Shout out to Chloe Zhao for always crafting a mood. If you like things a bit more “serious,” this should definitely be on your list.

The Mighty Nein – Streaming on Prime Video

Critical Role fans, you must be basking in all of the glory these days. The Mighty Nein is back and the show is bigger than ever. (I could be talking about tabletop in general, Critical Role, or this series on Prime Video honestly!) If you love animation and a band of colorful characters, then you’ve come to the right place. Plus, the show can be a laugh riot at points for sure.

WWE Survivor Series: War Games – Streaming on ESPN+

We usually have some wrestling fans in the house here at THS. And for those interested, War Games in San Diego proves to be quite a spectacle. John Cena’s second to last match against Rey Mysterio’s son? Two different massive 10 wrestler brawls involving a steel cage? Don’t forget what’s sure to be a red-hot crowd going ballistic for all of this when it kicks off on Saturday. Survivor Series should be a real spectacle.

The Beatles Anthology – Streaming on Disney+

Technically a remaster of an eight-part documentary series from the 1990s. But, this Beatles story is still breathtaking to behold. Especially for viewers who might not have been around back then! A special ninth episode has been added with new footage of Paul, Ringo, and George talking about their careers. Peter Jackson and the team at Apple Films should be commended for their efforts.
