Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway was one of the most popular entries into the Gundam franchise when this anime film made its debut back in June 11, 2021 in its home nation of Japan. Largely because it was one of the highest quality entries in the Gundam franchise, with critics praising it for its stunning visuals and a meticulous production that involved the staff flying out to Davao, Philippines just to get the city right.

The result is one of the best anime adaptations of something in a very long while. That something in this case was the 1989–1990 novel of the same name by Yoshiyuki Tomino, and fun fact: it’s a trilogy. Fittingly, this anime film is also set to be a trilogy, with the second part of that trilogy being the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe. Fortunately, we now have a bit more news about that upcoming sequel film.

Bandai Namco Filmworks is proud to announce that “Snooze” by SZA will be the opening theme song for Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe. Along with that announcement, we also confirm that the anime film will make its Japanese theatrical debut on January 30, 2026. Alas, there’s still no word on when we here in NA will see this film. We only get “soon” as as release window here. In the meantime though, you can watch their “Snooze” trailer for this film on YouTube, or just look below:

Interesting that she’s being compared to that infamous Greek sorceress here.

Based solely on “Snooze”, SZA makes Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe sound…poignant. Tragic, really, given the soft, blues-like tones and the lyrics of her song. Honestly, it fits the dark and violent story of Hathaway Noa (voiced by Kensho Ono (JP)), who embarks in quite a bit of horrific violence in his Gundam. The title apparently comparing his love interest Gigi Andalusia (voiced by Reina Ueda (JP)) to Circe is interesting though. Especially since Circe was the one who attempted to bewitch Odysseus into staying on her enchanted island forever. Does this mean Gigi is going to have a similarly antagonistic role here? Well, I suppose we’re going to find out at some point. Whenever we see this anime film in NA theaters.
