This Monster Wants To Eat Me finally resolves some of the most important questions about Miko in Ep. 6 “The Shape of Affection”. With the end result being an affirmation of her friendship with Hinako, and a truce between her and Shiori. It’s also a truce that has resulted in the fox and the fish both deciding that Hinako badly needs some rest and relaxation, aka. R&R.

Synopsis

The love of a fox is powerful indeed.

Alas, This Monster Wants To Eat Me is an ongoing anime. In fact, Ep. 6 “The Shape of Affection” only made its debut on November 6, 2025 exclusively on Crunchyroll. So for all those who haven’t seen this anime yet, here’s the synopsis for Ep. 6 directly from Crunchyroll below:

“Hinako and Shiori work through the aftermath of Miko’s revelation.”

Once more, Miko Yashiro (voiced by Fairouz Ai (JP)) is still the epicenter for This Monster Wants To Eat Me Ep. 6 “The Shape of Affection”. At least, for much of the episode, since much of this story is focused on the aftermath of Hinako (voiced by Reina Ueda (JP)) learning about Miko’s true nature as a very powerful kitsune, and about what Miko does to keep the horror hunger from getting to her. Her decision to literally rip some of her own tails out to limit her power to curb the desire to devour Hinako tells us quite a bit about her personality and character.

It’s also a nice, logical conclusion of all the character exploration Miko got in the previous two episodes, perfectly fitting her as a yokai who has come to believe herself to be a guardian of her people. The theming here of a monster who rejects her own nature in order to be a protector creates some lovely symbolism as well.

Which leads up to some character interactions and development as Miko then interacts with Shiori (voiced by Yui Ishikawa (JP)). This leads to some tidbits of lore that reveals some fascinating story developing around just why Hinako smells so delicious to yokai. Alas, the exact why will remain a mystery for now. All we know is that it’s related to the accident that took Hinako’s family, and nothing more.

This episode is also when we finally see why Hinako wears clothing that covers most of her body. Studio Lings did a good job in animating the scarring on her body in such horrific detail. It’s the same quality done for the blood-soaked furs of Miko’s severed tail, featuring high levels of detail and fairly smooth animation.

Believe it or not, this is the good option for Miko.

Alas, while the animation quality of This Monster Wants To Eat Me Ep. 6 “The Shape of Affection” is overall fairly high, it does have moments where you can tell that the animators used shortcuts to reduce their workload. The most obvious example was when Shiori slid a bit closer to Hinako on a bench. You could tell that Shiori was supposed to be using one of her arms to drag herself a bit closer to Hinako. However, while the arm motion was animated, the rest of her remained stock-skill as she moved. The result looks like someone dragged a jpg file over rather than any natural movement, and creates a little bit of comedy that is very clearly not intentional.

The level of detail on the food seen in this episode is also…not great. It’s not bad, but the texture detail is low enough that they end up looking more like plastic than actual food due to the completely smooth textures. This may not be a food-centric anime, but it is something negative to note about the animation quality.
