With so much negative news lately, it’s wonderful to see something wonderful and truly deserved. GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, the second largest entertainment journalists organization in the world, announced the winners of the group’s 2026 Dorian Film Awards, with Sinners emerging as the year’s undeniable standout with 7 wins.
In a rare alignment of commercial success and critical acclaim, Ryan Coogler’s sweeping historical horror epic, Sinners, became one of the few recent blockbusters to sweep the Dorians’ top prizes, underscoring its cultural resonance and artistic ambition. Earning Film of the Year and securing a commanding number of honors across major categories, including Director of the Year for Coogler, who was also named Wilde Artist of the Year, this recognition underscores its cultural resonance and artistic ambition.
“In an era when spectacle often eclipses substance, Sinners reminded us that a blockbuster can also be strong, political, and profoundly human,” said GALECA Executive Director Diane Anderson-Minshall. “Our members were struck by its fearless storytelling, its powerful ensemble performances, and its examination of community, resilience, and moral complexity across histories too often pushed to the margins. The sweep at this year’s Dorian Awards reflects a rare alignment of critical admiration and cultural urgency, and reminds us why cinema still matters.”
About GALECA and The Dorian Awards
Formed in 2008, GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics honors the best in film, television and Broadway/Off Broadway theater, mainstream to LGBTQIA+, via the Dorian Awards. A 501(c)6 nonprofit, GALECA serves to remind bigots, bullies and our own beleaguered communities that the world looks to the queer world for tips on great entertainment. The organization also advocates for better pay, access, and respect for its members, especially those in our most underrepresented and vulnerable communities.
GALECA’s efforts include the Crimson Honors, a film/TV criticism contest for LGBTQIA+ college students, and a vibrant YouTube channel that includes past Dorian Awards specials and fresh video chats with a variety of Hollywood notables.
