The 98th Academy Awards have come and gone, honoring a slate of absolutely spectacular films from 2025. The last year has proven a strong batch, with all-time great films and performances across multiple genres. Ironically enough, the night’s biggest winner wasn’t a single film, but a studio: Warner Bros, whose One Battle After Another took home six awards out of 13 nominations, alongside Sinners (netting four wins on a record-breaking 16 nominations) and Weapons’ single nomination and win for Amy Madigan (for Best Supporting Actress).

Among One Battle‘s most notable wins were the distinguished awards for Best Picture and Best Director, alongside Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn (who didn’t show), Best Editing, and the newly minted Oscar for casting. Sinners secured Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan, alongside wins for Original Score, Best Cinematography, and Paul Thomas Anderson and Ryan Coogler also took home the night’s screenplay awards (For Adapted and Original, respectively). Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein wowed across a number of technical categories, including Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Jessie Buckley was widely favored to win Best Actress for her spectacular turn in Hamnet, and win, she did. The beloved KPop Demon Hunters nabbed Best Animated Feature and Best Music (Original Song) for, of course, “Golden.” Best International Feature Film went to Norway’s Sentimental Value, edging out a packed category this year full of exceptional talents. There were a small number of surprises. First, the brilliant underdog Mr. Nobody Against Putin took home Best Documentary Feature Film (producing one of the night’s best speeches), while The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva both took tied to home Oscars for Best Live Action Short Film, a rarity in Academy Awards history.

Here is the full slate of this year’s winners and nominees.
