DC Studios has been on a bit of a run lately, with releases like Superman, Peacemaker season two, and Creature Commandos, the vision of James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm is being realized. However, the future is a bit murkier because they’re shifting around release dates for films. One such film that’s getting a new release date is Clayface. The film was originally set to release on September 11, 2026. Now it’ll be moving to October 23rd, 2026.
James Watkins is directing the film for DC Studios. It’ll be produced by Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris.
Clayface is known as one of Batman’s most interesting villains. He was originally introduced in the DC comics as Basil Karlo, a horror movie actor who went crazy. He gained the ability to shape-shift and transform his body into any form by turning into living clay.
The character’s last appearance was on the animated series Batman: The Caped Crusader. He was a staple of the Batman: The Animated Series from the 90s. That’s likely where most fans these days will know the character from.
Tom Rhys Harries will be playing the role of Clayface in the film. He’s joined by Naomi Ackie, Max Minghella, and Eddie Marsan in the film.
Clayface will be part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. It has been one of the more mysterious films on the DC slate. It was originally being written by Mike Flanagan but he had to step away from the project and was replaced by Hossein Amini.
The Future Of DC Films

DC Films doesn’t just have Clayface coming up, there’s also projects from Matt Reeves like The Batman Part II, Man of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and plenty of others as the comic company catches up to the grand plan that heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have come up with. They’re working to build out a larger overall universe that encompasses TV, movies, games, books, and other forms of media.
