Paramount Pictures is taking on the Paranormal Activity series for an eighth film and they’ve found a director for the project. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Ian Tuason, a rising Canadian filmmaker has been chosen to helm the picture. This comes two weeks after it was reported that James Wan was producing the film from the Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner.

The Paranormal Activity series kicked off in 2007 with the ultra-low-budget horror flick that captured the world’s attention. From there, all seven of the films in the saga have made a killing at the box office thanks to lower budgets and big scares.

The movie has Paramount on board to co-finance, co-produce, and distribute the movie. Oren Peli, the director of the first film, which grossed almost $200 million in 2007 will also produce.

Ian Tuason is an upcoming horror director who’s made a name for himself directing live-action virtual reality horror shorts that have racked up millions of views on YouTube. His feature debut was Undertones which debuted at the Fantasia International Film Festival. Undertones is also about the paranormal, which makes him perfect for this eighth entry in the long-running horror franchise.

This would be the eighth movie in the series following Paranormal Activity (2007), Paranormal Activity 2 (2010), Paranormal Activity 3 (2011), Paranormal Activity 4 (2012), The Marked Ones (2014), The Ghost Dimension (2015), and Next of Kin (2021).
