As we saw with the response to the Disclosure Day trailer, it’s been a while since we’ve anything this mysterious has come around. Director Steven Spielberg’s upcoming project, focusing on the potential revelation of intelligent life outside of Earth, has kicked off its marketing campaign in grand style. With a new Super Bowl spot revealing more about the Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor starring sci-fi thriller that landed on THS’ Movies To Look Forward To list, this new peek behind the curtain looks like it’s literally crashing the party.
We’ve Spotted Our First Spaceship From Disclosure Day
Thanks to Universal Pictures’ ad run during the big game, the tightly wrapped plot is still playing its cards close to the chest. However, as we saw with Disclosure Day’s cryptic advanced teases back in December, that doesn’t mean we don’t get something to feast our eyes on. The two big visual morsels we’ve been given to feast upon are pure adrenaline; one of which sees Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor trying to deal with their car being slammed into a speeding train.
As if that wasn’t enough of a heart stopper, we’ve finally been shown an alien ship from Disclosure Day’s unknown alien species. Naturally, we don’t see those beings just yet – because that’d be giving the store away. At the same time, I now have a bit of a crazy theory as to what’s going on with the story – thanks to a new moment with Colman Domingo’s character.

Could Disclosure Day Be Riffing On The Stanley Kubrick/Moon Landing Theory?
Throughout Disclosure Day’s trailer, the battle to release the truth about extraterrestrials is treated very seriously. And to be fair, I think that this movie is set in a world where aliens exist, and will be introduced to humanity. However, Colman Domingo’s dialogue about how “there’ll be no day like tomorrow” reminded me of the infamous conspiracy theory that alleged Stanley Kubrick faked the moon landing.
What if Disclosure Day isn’t merely about the race to disclose the truth, but rather the version of the truth that’s given to the world? Notice how Domingo’s character is walking through what looks like a film set as he delivers that line. Sure, we see what looks like a standard alien spacecraft entering our atmosphere after that; but that has me thinking, because why wouldn’t we watch the skies for something a bit newer?
I don’t doubt Steven Spielberg or his team in however they chose to design Disclosure Day’s ships – but pairing that familiar looking vehicle with Colman Domingo’s very pointed line has me thinking. (Also, you can blame my memory of The Fablemans director’s cameo in Paul for being on this particular track.)
What is the truth of Disclosure Day? We’ll see soon enough, as it’s set to arrive in theaters on June 12, as part of 2026’s competitive summer movie season.
