At the heart of any fandom that includes multiple starring characters, one question reigns supreme. That very query is at the heart of the Super Bowl LX ad that was aired tonight, celebrating the ongoing 30th anniversary festivities for Pokémon. Tapping the likes of Lady Gaga, Trevor Noah, and an international selection of popular talent, all involved answer this killer of queries: “what’s your favorite?” 

The answer to that question varies, with other notables such as Never Have I Ever’s Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Blackpink alum Jisoo also taking that subject to heart. So before you answer, take a look at Pokémon 30’s “What’s Your Favorite” ad, below: 

As an avid Pokémon fan myself, this is a decision I still haven’t delivered a firm ruling on. I’m honestly torn between Psyduck, Mew, Mewtwo, and Bulbasaur. (I know, that narrows it down, doesn’t it?) Thankfully for anyone who likes a straight answer, I wasn’t asked to be in this ad. And instead we saw the former Daily Show host do his Psyduck impression, as well as Lady Gaga sing the song of her personal favorite Jigglypuff.

With the TCG market finding itself in the spotlight once more thanks to Pokémon, properties like this and my new favorite card game Disney’s Lorcana are being watched rather closely. As I said before, all of those worlds pop the rather huge question of “what’s your favorite,” which should lead to some fun conversations between fans of all ages. (Seriously, do kids even remember how big of a deal the Ancient Mew card was?)
