Another year has come and gone, ushering in a new chapter of television for fans worldwide. From breakout series that took the internet by storm to shows that returned just as strong, TV continues to demonstrate the impact of long-form storytelling. Whether you’re tuned in for the plot, the characters, the cinematography, or a combination, there was plenty of television for every type of fan. With such an overwhelming amount to choose from, here are just ten of our top TV show picks for 2025.

St. Denis Medical (NBC)

From the minds of Superstore, St. Denis Medical knows exactly what makes workplace comedies so successful. The show plays on the ridiculous situations that can arise when interacting with patients without losing respect for health professionals and those in their care. Co-creators Eric Ledgin and Justin Spitzer carefully develop the characters and relationships for weekly audiences while still upholding classic sitcom tropes that appeal to casual viewers.

Slow Horses (Apple TV)

Wrapping up its fifth season in October, Slow Horses is a spy thriller that features impressive performances from its ensemble cast. Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, and more bring Will Smith’s vision to life, portraying complex characters inspired by Mick Herron’s Slough House novels. Slow Horses continues to engage fans years after its pilot, with the latest season injecting a fresh sense of humor that noticeably elevates the series.

Yellowjackets (Showtime)

After two seasons and several main character deaths, I was expecting to be underwhelmed by Yellowjackets’ latest batch of episodes. However, the season 3 premiere grabbed my attention, and each subsequent episode made me more invested in the show’s overarching mystery. While there are plenty of questionable storytelling decisions throughout Yellowjackets‘ run, no show in its third season managed to pull me back in quite like this one.

High Potential (ABC)

Kaitlin Olson’s newest series exemplifies why ABC has built such a devoted audience. High Potential is a masterfully balanced dramady, offering light-hearted elements for escapism, while still delivering high-stakes drama. It’s easy to become invested in Morgan’s family and partnership with Detective Karadec, without feeling the heaviness that often accompanies police procedurals. The star’s comedic skills complement, rather than overshadow, her dramatic scenes, further showcasing Olson’s impressive range as an actor.

Andor (Disney+)

While many series fail to live up to their first season, the reception to Andor season 2 was overwhelmingly positive. The Rogue One prequel undoubtedly appeals to established Star Wars fans, but even those who aren’t familiar with the lore rave about the carefully constructed story and its real-world parallels. Although it can be argued that the second season diverts from classic Star Wars elements, Andor remained an enjoyable watch for all audiences up to its conclusion.

Severance (Apple TV)

After three long years of anticipation, most fans agree that Severance season 2 was worth the wait. The show has won 10 Emmys since premiering in 2022 and continues to maintain the momentum of its debut episodes. Adam Scott shines as Mark Scout, impressively differentiating his outie from the innie created by his “severed” life. The second season delivers a shocking and emotional continuation of the story, transporting viewers through its immersive world-building.

The Studio (Apple TV)

Though a product of the very industry it’s dissecting, The Studio doesn’t shy away from the struggles of modern-day filmmaking. The show’s irony only adds to its comedic value, while also celebrating the elements that draw people towards the cinema. With names like Seth Rogen and Catherine O’Hara leading the series, it’s no surprise that The Studio is one of 2025’s most memorable watches.

Heated Rivalry (Crave)

The adaptation of Rachel Reid’s hockey romance novel has become one of the most talked-about shows of the year, despite releasing at the end of 2025. Heated Rivalry stars Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie as rival players who end up in a decade-long “situationship”. Although the first season only has six episodes, creator Jacob Tierney makes the most of every minute. Filled with both heat and heart, the series centers on the romantic connection between two sports stars who find solace in the last person they’d expect.

The Pitt (HBO Max)

HBO’s medical drama, The Pitt, is one of my top shows of 2025 due to its unique format alone. Taking place over one fifteen-hour shift, the first season develops its main characters with a depth that feels years in the making. While most medical dramas rely on viewers’ suspension of disbelief, The Pitt showcases the more realistic aspects of working in an ER. Still, it never sacrifices storytelling for realism, blending the two into an exceptional work of television.

Adolescence (Netflix)

Adolescence is arguably the most important show of the year, despite how difficult the reality is to swallow. Netflix’s crime drama was awarded the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series trophy at the 2025 Emmys and explores a shocking teen murder case that forces parents to face their greatest fears. Its one-shot format makes it stand out visually from other anthology series, but it’s Adolescence’s harrowing message that truly sets it apart.
