It’s been nearly a lifetime since Marvel Studios announced a Blade movie with Mahershala Ali at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. We’ve seen two new eras of Marvel on film, Disney+ TV shows, and even a return of Wesley Snipes as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. Well, a new report is stating that the standalone Blade movie is dead and buried. According to Jeff Sneider (industry insider), Marvel has killed the film and is instead introducing Blade in an upcoming Midnight Sons movie.
The development and production of Blade has been hampered by outside forces and things changing on the inside of Marvel Studios. There have been strikes, lack of a great script (according to Kevin Feige), changes in director, and at least five different writers taking a crack at the script. The film has ultimately been removed from the studio’s 2025 theatrical slate and we haven’t had a mention of anything about Blade officially, besides the joke in Deadpool & Wolverine.

This news comes at a time when Marvel Studios is rekindling the fire that they had with fans in previous eras. There’s the upcoming releases of Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Secret Wars, and the TV series Wonder Man. We’ll have to see if the wave of nostalgic feelings can revive a box office slump for the studio.
Mahershala Ali has technically been Blade in the MCU with a voice line in Eternals and his likeness for the What If…? spinoff Marvel: Zombies on DIsney+.
