The debut of Capcom’s original Resident Evil didn’t just change video game history, but made a dent in the horror genre and pop culture at large. That March 22, 1996 release brought us all to Raccoon City for the first time, plunging us all into an unforgettable world of survival horror. With that anniversary looming, as well as the release of Resident Evil: Requiem, the legendary game studio is partnering with Alamo Drafthouse to celebrate. That means you’ll be able to experience some chilling theatrical delights; as well as indulge in equally creepy food and drink.

Welcome To Raccoon City (Cinema)

Dubbing this series as “Raccoon City Cinema,” Alamo Drafthouse has a very specific brief in mind for this block cinematic programming. Set to start on February 6th, all titles selected “mirror Resident Evil’s core obsessions: containment failures, creeping paranoia, and the consequences of experiments that should never have left the lab.”

If you were expecting the Milla Jovovich Resident Evil movies, I’m sorry to say that you couldn’t be more wrong. You should dash those expectations quickly though, as this rundown of movies on offer is far from disappointing:

  • THE THING (1982, dir. John Carpenter)
  • THE RING (2002, dir. Gore Verbinski)
  • THE CABIN IN THE WOODS (2012, dir. Drew Goddard)
  • LONGLEGS (2024, dir. Osgood Perkins)

Now here’s the fun part: you technically get to see the movies listed above for free. However, you need to purchase a food and beverage voucher for the showing you’re attending. This wouldn’t be a Resident Evil-inspired event without some fine print; but I think this actually works in everyone’s favor. I say that because after looking at the special food and drink options themed after the Umbrella Corporation’s wildest nightmares, I already know what I want to order off of the menu.

Yes, There’s A Jill Sandwich On Raccoon City Cinema’s Menu

While none of the Resident Evil movies will be shown during Raccoon City Cinema, the spirit of Capcom’s legendary video game franchise is very strong. Just look at these delicious treats available to enjoy; one of which brings an iconic meme to salivating life:

  • JILL’S SANDWICH – Inspired by the iconic line from the original Resident Evil Double all-beef patties with two strips of applewood smoked bacon, melty cheese, pickles, & special burger sauce on a butter toasted bun. Served with fries & ketchup.
  • RED + GREEN HERB HOT DOG COMBO – A classic item combination from the Resident Evil series Restore your strength with this smoked hotdog topped with a green herb chimichurri, red chorizo, & sliced avocado. Served with fries & ketchup.
  • BINGO! FRIED CHICKEN – Inspired by Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil 4 Boneless chicken wings tossed in a red chile, ginger, garlic, & paprika spice blend, garnished with a drizzle of thyme-hot honey & fresh cut cilantro. Served with fries, celery & green herb ranch dressing.
  • T-VIRUS COCKTAIL – Inspired by Umbrella Corporation Hendrick’s Gin, blackberry, tonic, lime
  • BLUE UMBRELLA SERUM – Inspired by Blue Umbrella’s post Raccoon City mission Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Blue Curaçao, Sea Blue Red Bull, lemon, orange, cherry, mint

I’m calling it now: if I can make it to Raccoon City Cinema, I’m revisiting The Thing and The Cabin in the Woods on the big screen. And if I do, I’m chowing down on a Jill Sandwich, with a T-Virus Cocktail (both pictured above) on the side. As far as it comes to honoring 30th anniversaries in style, it’s now your move, Pokémon!

Resident Evil is pretty much covered, starting with Alamo Drafthouse’s Raccoon City Cinema – which will be unleashed on February 6th. While you’re at it, don’t forget that Resident Evil Requiem starts to sing its song via a console near you, starting February 27th. Last, but not least, Zack Cregger’s new Resident Evil flick is set to drop in theaters on September 18th.
