Star Trek fans can finally rejoice. A new movie is on the way from Paramount and it’s being worked on by the same team behind Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Deadline is reporting that Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are coming on to write, direct, and produce a new Trek film under their GoldDay company.

As for plot details, there are none currently. It’s not known what era of Star Trek, if any, that they’ll be pulling from. It however, is a completely new take in the Star Trek universe. This is not connected with the previous Kelvin timeline movies or anything else we’ve seen. That tracks with comments made by David Ellison about how the next film would be original and not tied to any previous movie. Deadline is also saying that there will be new characters featured in this version.

Goldstein and Daley have been busy in Hollywood of late. They have made a career out of delivering fun, punchy, and most importantly, good scripts based off existing IP and their own original material. They’ve written films like Spider-Man: Homecoming, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, and others. For fans of the more whimsical Star Trek, this could be a massive boon for the series at the movies.

They also have the upcoming cold war action comedy coming up, titled Mayday, with Ryan Reynolds. It has a planned release for next year sometime from Skydance and Apple.
