The Bluff is an upcoming pirate film that seeks to break the mold on quite a few tropes. On one hand, it has many of the tropes of a typical swashbuckler film, being about an ex-pirate hero who now fights to protect a family when former crewmates start showing up looking for revenge. On the other hand, it goes against many of those typical tropes by having that ex-pirate hero being female (and non-white to boot), and being in a brutal, blood-soaked action-heavy film of the kind typically reserved for men. It’s that willingness to beak that mold that’s why this particular swashbuckler film from director Frank E. Flowers is getting so much attention now.

Amazon MGM Studios is proud to announce their upcoming swashbuckler film The Bluff with a brand new official trailer. Said trailer is full of brutal yet stylish action, with just as much blood to go with it all. Plus, it even reveals that we’re going to get to see this film on February 25, 2026 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. You can watch that trailer either on YouTube, or just look below:

The Bluff Giving Us Female Swashbuckler Action on February 25

The Bluff poster
When you can see blood even in the poster, you know you’re going to be in for a bloody good time.

Interestingly, this swashbuckler film has some interesting nuances to it judging from that trailer. The Bluff looks like a modern interpretation of a classic swashbuckler film, complete with a main character with a morally questionable past and sacrificing fancy swordplay in favor of some brutal takedowns and horror-like cuts of the scenes, complete with tension-building music and jump scares. All that combined with this pirate hero (played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas) being very much female, and we’ve got a potentially winning formula here for action fans. Now let’s hope the film lives up to that trailer come February 25.
