Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland and Walt Disney World opened in 2019 to huge acclaim. It’s a dedicated land in both parks that only focuses on Star Wars. It focused exclusively on the sequel trilogy of films and brought guests to the planet of Baatu. The walls of the land are high and block off lines of sight to all other parts of the park, so it fully immerses guests in the land and lore. They also put in characters from those movies like Rey, Kylo Ren, and First Order Stormtroopers to roam the land. Over time, they’ve added other characters from shows like The Mandalorian.

The biggest problem with that immersion was guests that wanted to see famous original trilogy characters like Darth Vader. It would break the immersion if they did that, but now Disney is changing how the land works. The Disney Parks Blog posted that by the end of April, vintage Star Wars heroes and villains will appear in Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland. They mention Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Han Solo, R2-D2, and Luke Skywalker as characters you’ll see in the land.

The other huge change is that they’ll have John Williams’ famous Star Wars themes playing throughout the land. The land already had music composed by Williams for the land, but they’ll be mixed in with his classic themes as well.

For fans of the sequel trilogy and that ambiance though, the area around Rise of the Resistance will continue to be sequel themed. They’ll also have Ahsoka and Mandalorian characters near the marketplace that’s between the Resistance Camp and Black Spire Outpost. The old school characters will be around the Millennium Falcon area.

This is a welcome change for fans who wanted more of the Star Wars eras represented. They previously had Luke Skywalker from his appearances in The Mandalorian, but this is the first time they’ll have a classic version of the character. We’ll have to see what everything looks like when the changes go into effect in April of 2026.
