The success of Prehistoric Planet on Apple TV+ seems to have spurred a general rise in interest in those fabulous prehistoric animals: dinosaurs. It’s not hard to see why either. Dinosaurs have long fascinated us with their size, diverse appearances, and wonder at what they were like when they walked the earth. And now, it seems Netflix has caught this revival of dinosaur fandom. How else do you explain them apparently trying to compete with Apple TV+ with their own dinosaur series?

Netflix is proud to announce that they will soon be streaming their upcoming new dinosaur documentary series: The Dinosaurs. Featuring Morgan Freeman as the narrator, the creators of Our Planet (Dan Tapster, Keith Scholey, and Alastair Fothergill) as the showrunners, and Steven Spielberg as an executive producer, this series also aims to bring dinosaurs back to life in a nature documentary form. And as you can imagine: this announcement comes with a brand new trailer that also reveals we’ll get to see this new dinosaur documentary on March 6, 2026. As for the trailer itself? Well, you can watch it either on YouTube, or just look below:

I’m sensing more than a hint of Jurassic Park in this.

Especially with Steven Spielberg featured so prominently in the credits.

Honestly, The Dinosaurs is a very strange nature documentary based on that trailer. It almost feels like…Jurassic Park minus the people. There’s a very strong emphasis on the dinosaurs behaving in “epic” ways and not realistic ways. You know, like how animals would actually behave. There’s also emphasis on the dinosaurs being put in some highly extreme scenarios like a volcanic eruption or the moment the Chicxulub asteroid impacts the earth, just like in the newer Jurassic World films. It makes this series feel as though it’s both competing with Prehistoric Planet, while also trying to carve out its own niche in the dinosaur documentary genre. I suppose if you’re a fan of Jurassic Park, this might be the nature documentary for you. If not, well, let’s hope this dinosaur series isn’t too unrealistic.
