Hulu has officially greenlit a pilot to revive The X-Files for the streaming platform. Ryan Coogler is on board to write and direct. According to THR, they’ve cast the first of two co-leads on the series, with Danielle Deadwyler joining the cast. Here’s the official description of the series.

“Two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.”

That sure sounds like the original series but slightly different for the more modern day version of it. The original run of The X-Files kicked off in 1993 and ran for nine seasons with two movies. It starred Gillian Anderson as Agent Scully and David Duchovny as Agent Mulder. They’re both assigned to a paranormal division of the FBI to help debunk Mulder’s work.

Chris Carter, the creator and showrunner of the original series is on board as a non-writing Executive Producer. Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler, who are Coogler’s partners at their Proximity Media banner, are also non-writing EPs on the show.

This is a huge development for Hulu with Coogler coming off the critical and commercial success of Sinners. That film was nominated for 16 Oscars, a record.

Deadwyler should be known for fans of Netlix’s The Piano Lesson, The Woman in the Yard, and will appear in the upcoming season of Euphoria and the HBO comedy Rooster.

The series makes a return at a time when interest in UFOs and UAPs are at an all-time high.
