HBO’s The Comeback starring Lisa Kudrow may have one of the craziest timelines for an American sitcom. Debuting in 2005 for single season of 13 episodes, it was then canceled. In 2014, it was revived for a second season consisting of eight episodes. It was left to languish until 2025, when it was announced that it would be returning for a third and final season in March 2026.

Co-created by Kudrow and Michael Patrick King, The Comeback debuts Sunday, March 22 at 10:30 p.m. ET on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. New episodes of the eight-episode season will debut weekly leading up to the series finale on Sunday, May 10.

The logline for season three details the following: 20 years after its debut, the HBO Original comedy series returns with Lisa Kudrow reprising her Emmy®-nominated role as actress Valerie Cherish.

The new season picks up more than 10 years after the second season, with Cherish now starring in a new show–that’s being written by AI–and still trying to make her Hollywood dreams come true.

Alongside Kudrow, the cast will feature Dan Bucatinsky, Laura Silverman, Damian Young and Tim Bagley, Matt Cook, Jack O’Brien, Ella Stiller, John Early, Barry Shabaka Henley, Abbi Jacobson, Tony Macht, Brittany O’Grady, Zane Phillips, Julian Stern, and Andrew Scott.

Following each episode, check out The Comeback’s Official HBO Companion Video Podcast on HBO Max, where host Evan Ross Katz will sit down with Kudrow and King to dive into the season’s storyline, the origins of the series, the writing journey and the relevance of Valerie Cherish today. The podcast will also feature special guests from the cast and beyond.

Though not initially a hit, The Comeback eventually gained a cult following, leading to HBO bringing the show back for its second season. Kudrow has also received critical acclaim for her role, receiving two Emmy nominations for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series. King likewise was nominated for outstanding directing for a comedy series in the show’s first season.
