Prime Video confirmed some big casting news and character details for Tomb Raider today. In addition to officially announcing both Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs as cast members, we also learned who these stars will play in the upcoming TV series.
Isaacs will play an existing character in the Tomb Raider franchise: Lara Croft’s uncle, Atlas de Mornay.
Weaver, on the other hand, will portray a character newly created for the series. Her name is Evelyn Wallis, a “mysterious, high-flying woman keen to exploit Lara’s talents.”
Isaacs and Weaver join previously announced cast members Celia Imrie, Bill Paterson, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed and August Wittgenstein. Sophie Turner leads the series as Lara Croft.
Prime Video’s Tomb Raider comes from creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who also serves as co-showrunner along with Chad Hodge. The upcoming series draws on the video game series of the same name that first debuted in the late ‘90s. The property previously made the jump to the silver screen with feature adaptations starring Angelina Jolie in the early 2000s, and an additional movie starring Alicia Vikander in 2018.
The series, from Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM, is also executive produced by Crystal Dynamics; Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins through Wells Street Productions; Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg and Timothy I. Stevenson through Story Kitchen; Michael Scheel; Hodge; and Legendary Television.
Currently, the series does not have a release date. So, check back to THS for more updates.
