Subnautica 2 is still one of the most hotly anticipated games in recent history. In fact, the game still maintains its top place as currently Steam’s most wishlisted game. However, this upcoming game has been mired in controversy ever since publisher Krafton fired the three co-founders of developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment (UWE) all the way back in July 2025. Those firings kicked off a legal battle for control of the game and UWE that is still ongoing as of this writing.
Amidst that controversy, though, we’ve been getting precious little information about Subnautica 2 from the devs themselves. There has been a handful of dev vlogs and an ongoing audio drama, but very little else. In fact, it has been two months since the last dev vlog on YouTube on December 9, 2025. Fortunately, that has all changed today.
Unknown Worlds Entertainment is proud to release a new dev vlog titled “Diving Together in Multiplayer” for Subnautica 2. You can watch that dev vlog for yourself either on YouTube or just look below:
“Diving Together in Multiplayer” Dev Vlog Teases Subnautica 2 Multiplayer, Gives Little Else
To be honest, this latest UWE dev vlog shows off some very promising content for Subnautica 2. Primarily in the field of multiplayer, of course. This dev vlog really highlights the potential fun in diving into an alien ocean with your friends. You can dive into this game either by yourself for a classical Subnautica adventure or bring along up to three of your friends for a less isolated experience. You can even convert your single-player game file into a multiplayer one at whim, just to show off your base to your friends. However, the devs maintain that this multiplayer experience is entirely optional. There will never be any task that requires more than one person to perform cooperatively, so you can still preserve that original Subnautica feel of oceanic isolation if you wish.
There are other little tidbits of Subnautica 2 info, though. At 0:40, the dev vlog shows off a WIP submarine on a massive scale, apparently intended for multiple people to be able to operate. The video also shows off how other players can ride the exterior of a submarine another player is piloting. There is even a “dive elevator” that can allow multiple players and storage containers to rapidly descend into the depths, or ascend back up to the surface. All in all, it looks like an amazing game that is perfectly ready for Early Access.
Alas, Krafton doesn’t think so. The end of the dev vlog still insists that Subnautica 2 will enter access sometime in 2026. It’s already February 2026, and they won’t even give us a precise release date? There’s something fishy about that, especially given the game’s obviously advanced state of development in that dev vlog. Does Krafton intend to force UWE to make a complete game before allowing Early Access? We’ll just have to see later.
