Whereas Mark Hamill claims he’s not going to say any more about Star Wars: Episode IX, Oscar Isaac can’t seem to stop talking about it. He’s given multiple interviews lately in which he’s discussed the film. In one instance he claimed that Episode IX will “blow fans away.” In another he definitively stated that the last, episodic Star Wars film will conclusively end the Skywalker saga. Now he’s telling us that C-3PO is slated to have a much larger role than usual.

The sequel trilogy has thus far relegated C-3PO to the background. That’s unfortunate, considering how large a role Anthony Daniels has played throughout the entire saga. The actor bid an emotional adieu to Star Wars via Twitter at the end of January. If what Isaac says is true, however, Daniels got to do a bit more in Episode IX than in the previous two films.

C-3PO to Have Larger Role in Episode IX

Isaac recently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and spoke about finishing work on Episode IX. As part of the interview, Isaac shared stories about working with Daniels, specifically. According to the actor, it seems C-3PO and Poe Dameron will have a lot of screen time together.

First, Isaac described Daniels as being “super emotional about…” concluding his role in Star Wars “…and hanging up the golden cowl.” But that wasn’t all. “This time he kept saying this was the most fun he had,” Isaac continued. “‘Cause he had so much fun things to do, and we got to work a lot together.”

Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, together with first Kenny Baker and then actor Jimmy Vee as R2-D2, has been a part of Star Wars since the very first scenes of the original Star Wars in 1977.After barely appearing in either The Force Awakens or The Last Jedi,  it’s nice to know Threepio will be a significant part of Episode IX.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters December 20, 2019.
