Spy x Family Season 3 ratchets up the politics for Ep. 43 “White Jealousy | The Eden College Busjacking Incident”. First it gives us some office politics at Loid’s workplace that turns potentially very deadly for him. Then we get the point in the story where Anya and her classmates find their slice of life being interrupted by politics in a way that’s even deadlier.

That floppy school bus at the top suddenly looks a lot more ominous.

Spy x Family Season 3 Ep. 43 “White Jealousy | The Eden College Busjacking Incident” is the sixth episode (you can read my reviews of Ep. 1Ep. 2Ep. 3Ep. 4, and Ep. 5 here) of the third season of this spy action-comedy anime, and the 43rd overall in the series. Said anime is the anime adaptation of the ongoing Spy x Family manga series by Tatsuya Endo.

Wit Studio (Attack on Titan S1-3, Ranking of KingsSuicide Squad Isekai) and Cloverworks (The Promised NeverlandBocchi the Rock!My Dress-Up Darling) remains the animation studios behind this anime, just as they have for the first two seasons. In fact, longtime readers at THS will recall that we reviewed the first and second seasons, plus the Spy x Family Code: White anime film as well. The staff is a bit different this time around though. Yukiko Imai has replaced Kazuhiro Furuhashi and Takahiro Harada as the director, but all other staff are reprising their roles.

The opening theme song for this third season of Spy x Family Season 3 is “Hi o Mamoru” (灯を護る) by Spitz. Meanwhile, “Actor” by Lilas Ikuta is the ending theme song for the same.

Synopsis

Alas, the silliness is going away in this episode.

Alas, Spy x Family Season 3 is still an ongoing anime series. In fact, Ep. 43 “White Jealousy | The Eden College Busjacking Incident” only just made its debut on November 8, 2025 on Crunchyroll and Hulu. Thus, to avoid spoilers, here’s the synopsis of this episode from Crunchyroll:

“A doctor’s jealousy gets Loid into some trouble at the hospital and Anya’s class goes on a field trip.”

Spy x Family Season 3 Ep. 43 “White Jealousy | The Eden College Busjacking Incident”: The Good

Since Spy x Family Season 3 Ep. 43 “White Jealousy | The Eden College Busjacking Incident” is split into two segments, this review will similarly be split into two parts. Starting with:

White Jealousy

It’s amazing how quickly jealousy can turn into gratitude, especially when trickery is involved.

“White Jealousy” has an interesting story that watches like something right out of The Office, but if it was set in East Germany. Much of the segment is essentially an office comedy involving a decidedly unlikeable superior who has become insanely jealous of a subordinate for some incredibly petty reasons. In this case, said subordinate is a very put-upon Loid Forger (voiced by Takuya Eguchi (JP) and Alex Organ (EN)), and very much not to his benefit. Especially when the comedy suddenly turns deadly serious when his superior-the director of the hospital, mind you-decides to falsely report him to Ostania’s secret police. It takes a lot of espionage work and acting from Loid to get out of that situation not only intact, but coming out of the mess with more reputation points with that hospital director.

It’s really that latter point that makes this segment become political commentary. It’s effectively a depiction of what happens in an oppressive society when you have a secret police with the power to arrest anyone for any reason whatsoever. You just get people reporting other people for personal, petty reasons just to get an advantage. It’s this part that makes it very much relevant in today’s society.

The Eden College Busjacking Incident

Even the key art for this episode is looking deadly serious.

Now it’s “The Eden College Busjacking Incident” where the politics gets even more deadly serious. It starts off with a nice, calm field trip for Anya (voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki (JP) and Megan Shipman (EN)) and her school friends, complete with childish antics between them. Then things go horribly, horribly wrong when their bus suddenly departs from the planned route, and terrorists board the bus, taking them all as hostages for political reasons.

This is a significant development in the story of Spy x Family. Previously, the political/espionage and slice of life comedy parts of the story have been pretty clearly separated from each other, despite how intertwined they appeared to be at the beginning. This particular segment is when the political side intertwines with the slice of life again…or rather, it invades the slice of life. Moreover, this invasion is done in a disturbingly realistic way. You can easily imagine a terrorist incident like this occuring in real life. It’s the contrast between this and the earlier slice of life comedy that further emphasizes the drama and tension.

Oh, and kudos to Tatsuya Endo and the animators at Wit Studio and CloverWorks for depicting the terrorists using what looks like a KS-23. For context: it’s a Soviet shotgun that is made from 23mm autocannon barrels that didn’t meet manufacturing standards, and so are enormously huge and powerful because of it. Considering that the KS-23 was first designed in 1971 and entered service in 1985, it’s even period-appropriate for the Cold War setting.

Spy x Family Season 3 Ep. 43 “White Jealousy | The Eden College Busjacking Incident”: The Bad

The kids are in deep, deep trouble now.

Alas, Spy x Family Season 3 Ep. 43 “White Jealousy | The Eden College Busjacking Incident” does end on a cliffhanger, and right as the terrorists have just successfully disabled the car carrying the field trip’s security team that was supposed to provide security to the kids. I do understand why they did it. After all, they want people to have an incentive to tune in for next week’s episode. It’s just that stopping the plot right in the middle of the action and drama likes this leaves viewers feeling a bit unfulfilled. Especially when the cliffhanger occurs at a critical point in the plot like this.
