Cosmic Princess Kaguya is one of the most mysterious of Netflix’s upcoming anime. Much of the details are things that Netflix have kept shrouded in mystery. Some of the few things we know about it include the creator Shingo Yamashita, who is best known for his work on the opening sequences of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, Chainsaw Man, and Urusei Yatsura. In fact, Yamashita’s Studio Chromato is producing the anime film alongside Studio Colorido (Penguin Highway, Whisker Away). While we also know the synopsis for the anime film, it barely gives us any information about the plot. If anything, it only raised more questions. Fortunately, many of those questions will see an answer right now with today’s story.
Netflix is proud to unveil the main trailer for their upcoming anime film Cosmic Princess Kaguya, plus a new key art for it. Both of them reveal that we’re going to see this upcoming anime film make its exclusive Netflix debut on January 22, 2026. From the looks of that new trailer and key art, I think it’s safe to say that Cosmic Princess Kaguya will be a musical fantasy anime film. With heavy undertones of yuri in it to boot. It’s like Shingo Yamashita decided to take the age-old legend of Princess Kaguya, and decided to make it into a yuri story. I mean, look at them. A mysterious girl drops into an ordinary girl’s life and drags her into a world of fun, fantasy, and music? The romance potential in this story is so strong that you can practically cut it out and eat it as a yuri cake. Let us all hope that’s the case here.
