Hulu’s A Thousand Blows released its first season in February 2025 and is back for season 2 less than a year later. All six episodes of the historical drama are now available on the streaming service, with the finale leaving plenty of storylines left to explore. That Hashtag Show caught up with creator Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) and star Malachai Kirby (Devils) to break down those final moments and what they mean for the show’s future. Check out our full conversation below.
Warning: This interview contains spoilers for the A Thousand Blows season 2 finale.
A Thousand Blows season 2 sees Hezekiah grappling with Alec’s death, and Kirby shares that his character is grieving more than just the loss of a friend.
“What Alec represented was not just identity, but a sense of integrity, a sense of belonging, a sense of home, a sense of himself. He was like his mirror, in a way. And so when he’s removed from the picture, it’s not just the removal of a friend, it’s kind of a removal of what it is that makes him who he is.”
Hezekiah does find a kindred spirit in Mary, and with the two off to New York together, what does this mean for a potential third season? Hulu is yet to renew the series, but Knight reveals that he never intended for the season 2 finale to be an ending. Instead, those final moments were written as a set-up for future episodes.
“I never write an ending because I always believe that you tell the story and tell the story until the story runs out. So I always think there’s going to be more. And Hezekiah story went on. Sugar’s story went on. The Forty Elephants were still around in 1950 which is quite remarkable. So there are plenty of stories to tell.”
A Thousand Blows season 2 is currently available to stream on Hulu.
