It’s an interesting time for Warner Bros. Pictures right now. The studio was making headlines earlier this year by capturing several Academy Awards (including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay), thanks to Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. But now, it seems like everyone is more focused on the impending merger with Paramount, which many in the industry are vehemently opposing.

However, until things are finalized on that front, it’s business as usual for WB. Like many other prominent movie-making enterprises, the next order of business for the legendary studio is CinemaCon. And as they preview the upcoming slate of projects, That Hashtag Show is on the scene in Las Vegas to report on the coming attractions.

A Mystery Awaits

The fun starts even before the presentation does. Each attendee at the Caesar’s Palace main stage was given a mysterious package with the explicit instructions not to open it yet. With several highly anticipated projects in the pipeline, it’ll be interesting to see which one this is related to.

Once the festivities properly start, our host Patton Oswalt arrives onstage with showgirls to kick things off. He brings the audience his beloved brand of comedy as he discusses the moviegoing experience, before welcoming Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group Co-chairs and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy to discuss the studio’s releases from last year. They also hype up the new indie label under the WB banner called Warner Bros Clockwork. The first film released under this division will be Te Amo from Anora writer and director Sean Baker in 2027.

After an exciting sizzle reel, Warner Bros President of Global Distribution Jeffrey Goldstein shows off how the studio is aiming to be more ambitious than ever. He then teases some 2027 releases, including Minecraft 2, M. Night Shyamalan’s Remain, the highly anticipated Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, a new Evil Dead sequel from Sam Raimi, and The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum

Digger

Before we get to 2027, this year has a number of stellar releases in store. One of them is Digger, the latest movie from Birdman and The Revenant filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu. He and Tom Cruise are in Sin City to hype the satirical comedy about the most powerful man in the world, who is trying to save humanity from a disaster that he unleashed.

The duo met seven years ago to discuss the film. Iñárritu shared that he needed a fearless collaborator, and he found that in Cruise. They then unveil a brand new trailer, exclusively for CinemaCon, that finds Cruise channeling his Tropic Thunder character Les Grossman in an all-new way.

End of Oak Street

The next film in the program is The End of Oak Street from producer J.J. Abrams and director David Robert Mitchell. The thrilling 80s-esque sci-fi finds an entire street ripped out of suburbia and into an unknown location that somehow has dinosaurs. Oswalt introduced a new trailer, which highlights more of the damage being done to the titular street and reveals that the dinosaurs are eating people.

New Line Cinema

Now, as part of the New Line Cinema portion of the presentation, the audience gets an early look at Evil Dead Burn. Directed and co-written by French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček, the sixth overall installment of the cult classic franchise will star Souheila Yacoub and should arrive in theaters in July 2026. Our own Hunter Bolding described the footage as “pure series goodness” with the Book of the Dead, an element of family, and plenty of gore, some of which includes one of the franchise’s most notable weapons: a chainsaw.

Mortal Kombat II, which is finally getting to some tournament action, ís next. With only a few weeks until its May 8, 2026 premiere date, they tease the fans with a match between Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage and CJ Bloomfield as Baraka. In typical Cage fashion, he peppers in some flair into his fighting with a split and groin punch that WWE’s Danhausen may find very nice and very evil.

Warner Bros Animation

Finally, the time has arrived to unveil the contents of the mysterious package: Blue wigs. Why? Because Thing 1 and Thing 3 are in the auditorium to bring out a new trailer for the upcoming adaptation of The Cat in the Hat. Originally written by Dr. Seuss, this will be the second feature-length adaptation of the story after the 2003 live-action film starring Mike Myers. This time, Bill Hader will step into the iconic hat alongside a star-studded cast that also includes Matt Berry, Quinta Brunson, Giancarlo Esposito, America Ferrera, Bowen Yang, and Tituss Burgess. With this very cute trailer, we’re reminded that the all-new film drops on November 6, 2026.

DC Studios

DC Studios co-chair and co-CEO Peter Safran is next to hit the stage. He announces that Man of Tomorrow begins filming next week. He also debuts a clip from James Watkins’ horror thriller Clayface that gives us a brief look at the realistic depiction of the character. After that interesting look into the infamous Batman villain’s upcoming film, an alien DJ on the ones and twos welcomes Supergirl director Craig Gillespie, Jason Momoa (on Lobo’s signature motorcycle), and the titular heroine herself, Milly Alcock. Momoa expresses how it has been a dream come true to finally play Lobo in the DC Universe. The group briefly discusses the making of the film before showing off a scene from the movie that shows off just how different it will be from Superman, where Alcock’s Girl of Steel first appeared.

We Came To This Place For Magic

From superheroes to witches, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman arrived onstage for Practical Magic 2. After reciting Kidman’s iconic AMC Theaters line, the co-stars shared how perfect it was to work together again and how natural it was to sink back into these characters. Fans of the original will be happy to know that there will naturally be margaritas, old and new members of the family, and Sally and Gillian’s pasts coming back to haunt them. To reinforce that, they share a new trailer.

The Great Beyond

J.J. Abrams is the next one out to debut a clip from The Great Beyond. This is a totally original idea from the creative mind that brought us Alias, Super 8, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Many details are still being kept under wraps, but the film scheduled for release on November 13, 2026, stars Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, and Samuel L. Jackson. As for the footage, those in attendance are saying that this could be a return to form for Abrams that’s filled with pure action, adventure, and whimsy.

Dune: Part Three

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three is the next project on display in these hallowed halls. The filmmaker is joined by Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, and Jason Momoa to talk about this emotional and action-packed sequel that takes place 17 years after the last movie. They’re describing it as a redemption story for Paul Atreides, whose visions and nightmares all came true. And since they made this movie for the fans, the crew has brought along the first seven minutes to show the fans in attendance. For those of us at home, tickets are available now for the upcoming threequel that drops on December 18, 2026.

That’s All Folks

Finally, Warner Bros. wraps up its CinemaCon presentation by teasing more upcoming projects, including original sci-fi film The Flood from Weapons and Barbarian filmmaker Zach Cregger, another Gremlins film, and a tale from Westeros about Aegon Targaryen called Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest. While we’re likely to learn more about these movies in the coming months, that’s all for now. For the latest on CinemaCon 2026 and other movie news, be sure to stay tuned to That Hashtag Show.
